In this week’s Ruslan Chill Companion, Bharat Nepali concocts a mellow cocktail called Strawberry Delight

Bharat Nepali has been working as a bartender at Reef, Thamel, for over three years. Currently the head bartender at the restaurant, Nepali trained at a bartending institute in Baneshwor before joining Reef. He says he particularly enjoys working as a bartender at Reef because of its pleasant and unique ambience. He also likes trying out new cocktail recipes in his spare time.

Nepali’s mixology philosophy

For Nepali, one of the defining traits of a good bar is its engagement with customers. He believes that it is every bartender’s responsibility to keep the customers entertained. He therefore makes sure that all his customers enjoy their drink—and the time they spend at the bar. To achieve that end, he showcases his juggling skills, engages them in bar games and concocts intriguing drinks such as ‘flaming shots’. The bar is situated next to the restaurant’s live-music stage, so no one gets bored—at least not under Nepali’s watch.

Nepali’s mixology chops

For this week’s Chill Creation, Nepali created a mellow cocktail called Strawberry Delight. It is an easy-to-make cocktail with around 23 per cent alcohol, and is one of Reef’s best-selling drinks. To create it, Nepali mixed vodka with strawberry syrup and topped the mixture with 7Up and a dash of lime juice. He also added some fresh basil to give the drink a refreshing edge.

60ml (2 ounces) vodka
15ml strawberry syrup
60ml 7Up
15ml lime juice
Fresh basil
